What Does a Making Every Class Catholic PD Day Look Like?

The Quick Version
A professional development day with Dr. Brett Salkeld combines energy, clarity, and depth. Expect a compelling keynote that introduces Catholic Academic Integration in a way that makes sense to the average teacher–and interactive workshops that help them start applying it the same day. Teachers laugh, think, and often say, “This is the best PD I’ve ever attended.” More than that, they leave inspired and equipped to make every class more deeply Catholic.
The Details
A typical day with Dr. Brett Salkeld includes a dynamic keynote and interactive workshop.
The Keynote
Dr. Salkeld’s keynote sets the tone: energetic, engaging, and thought-provoking. It introduces the concept of Catholic Academic Integration—the idea that every subject can be authentically taught from a Catholic worldview, drawing on the Church’s rich and compelling intellectual tradition. Through vivid, age- and subject-specific examples, he helps teachers see what this looks like in practice. The keynote also tackles common objections and questions head-on, giving teachers both confidence and clarity.
Keynotes are typically:
• A single 75–90 minute session, or
• Two 45-minute sessions with a break
I got SO much from his presentation! He didn’t give “pointers” or the latest “techniques” – he shared a whole new way of thinking about Faith and teaching. And he kept us in stiches. This is the most useful and entertaining presentation I have been to!
I really appreciate that Brett had conversations with us and shared his personal experiences of success and failure. I learned so much.
The Workshops
The second half of the day shifts to workshops—interactive discussions where teachers begin to apply the ideas introduced in the keynote.
Grouped by grade level (elementary) or subject area
(high school), teachers work together to:
• Reimagine their subject or discipline from a Catholic perspective
• Identify specific units or lessons where integration can begin
• Start building out practical, classroom-ready plans
Workshops typically run 60–90 minutes, or two 45–50 minute sessions with a break. Dr. Salkeld provides fillable handouts and free resource documents to guide this work—and ensures every teacher leaves with something they can use.
Included with Every Booking
• Zoom planning call with organizers
• Optional training call for small group leaders (online and/or in person)
• Free digital resources and fillable handouts
• One-month free access to the Making Every Class Catholic online community for all attendees
• Optional discussion about group rates for ongoing access
Brett’s talks were so much more than how to integrate Faith in all my classes; they opened to me a better view of how to better live my faith in all parts of my life. Thank you for inviting him.

Want to Go Deeper?
Subject-Specific Days or Multi-Year Plans
I would like to have Brett come up again. I am reworking not just my plans for teaching Religion, but my approach to teaching all my subjects, after the in-service.
For dioceses or divisions ready to go deeper, Brett also offers subject-specific PD days for individual departments. These make excellent follow-ups to a first PD day–or can stand alone as focused formation for particular departments. Smaller partners can find it helpful to join with mission-aligned neighbours for these days.
Many schools and dioceses develop multi-year professional development plans to make teaching every subject from a Catholic point of view a key priority in their Catholic identity and mission. Through a combination of professional development days, online consulting, online resources and more, Dr. Salkeld is always excited to support you in this work.
